Bacon Is A Vegetable and other lies we tell children is the culmination of my adventure as an animal advocate and expectant father in parallel to my wife's pregnancy. I have read books about lying and deception, research papers about how children perceive animals, and immersed myself in the popular culture which shapes social perceptions of animals. I have taken a look at the progression from children who prioritise dogs over humans and rescue worms from their driveway, through to adults who routinely and with rare thought consume and use animals on a daily basis. There are adults who still believe there are fairies, there are adults who believe rats are disgusting (despite having never met one), and there are adults who think the animal on their plate is different than the animal in their yard. This book is an antidote to the incessant deception we as adults practice, which is passed on to our children, to the detriment of our animals.
