As charming as both the text and the illustrations are in this book (and they are, indeed!), it pales in comparison to "Baby Bear's Books." That said, this is still a very enjoyable book that my 14-month-old continues to cherish months after she first discovered it. UPDATE: After owning this book for more than a year, I must confess that it is one of my daughter's favorites -- along with all the other two in the "Baby Bear" series by Jane Yolen (See "Baby Bear's Books" and "Baby Bear's Dreams") -- and I don't regret having purchased it at all. At 2, she now not only enjoys the rhymes but has memorized many of the rhyming couplets (which are short and simple) and frequently reads the books to herself. "Baby Bear's Books" is still her favorite, but this is now a close second. I would heartily recommend this book, as well as the two others. They're not easily found in bookstores -- which is nice if you give them as a gift because the recipient is not likely to receive them from someone else. If I could change my rating on this to 5 stars, I would.
