This biography written by Marguerite Youcenar is wonderful. Her aristocratic strange father was a huge influence on Marguerite. It's good to read the biography Marguerite wrote of her mother's family as well. It explains where the author hails from and how it influenced her character. The lives of both parents are so antiquated. First there was "old money" that was mostly gambled away at French and German casino's. The father did not care for a conventional life and hated his mother for her petite bourgeoisie. The duo, father and daughter lived most of her younger years in various hotels. I loved reading about these characters and would love to visit Youcenar's house in Maine.
