The title of this book led me to believe that this was going to be a book about sketching and painting on the scene. Actually, the cover picture was sketched from a bench in front of the Eiffel Tower. Most of the other paints were completed at home based on photos she took on her travels. Don't get me wrong, the artwork is beautiful and has a wonderful mixture of colors. They are light and beautiful examples of quick watercolor scenes of charming scenes in Europe. Page 42 starts with "Using several reference photos as my guide..." Page 48 also states, "Using a photograph for reference..." The third picture has a similar line, "Since I didn't have time to stop and paint, I snapped a photo to pick up the project at home." Her directions are also vague and would be hard for someone just beginning in watercolor to follow. The directions for the first picture start with, " Apply blue and yellow onto wet paper, starting with the largest shapes in the sketch, moving to the smallest shapes, and adding details last." There are 4 or 5 photos of her on site with her sketchbook, but the pictures were done at home, from photos.
