This volume is a collection of letters between 2 English women from the late 1950's until Grenfell's death in the late 70's. Both women were well educated, articulate, and active in the literary/performing arts fields in England at the time. Curiously, the women decided to be pen pals over all these years but consciously chose to never actually meet face to face. The letters cover a great variety of topics; Grenfell's travel and performance work, Moore's teaching and writing, current events, poetry, philosphy, family anecdotes, both humorous and touching, nature, birding as a hobby, and numerous other things. While far from fast paced, this is a delightful read. The letters are divided by year which makes this an excellent book to pick up and enjoy for a short period and then put down for later visits. Both women come across as facinating individuals as well as warm compassionate people. It has been a real pleasure to spend these hours in their company. I have read other writings of Grenfell's, which is what attracted me to this book, but this is my first encounter with Katharine Moore. I do intend to seek out some of her other writings. I hope you enjoy it too.
