She was a beautiful woman who had been burned before--jilted by an unfeeling, uncaring man. But once she met a lascivious lord in London's marriage mart, she felt her defenses failing, her resistance weakening, and her arms opening to a man who could destroy her heart forever. Original Regency Romance.
THis story was quite nice. It dealt well with the tragedies in both the hero and heroine's lives. THe relationship between the children and their new step mother was realistically treated. I did find it a bit inconceivable that a woman who was in great pain as a result of traveling in a coach should be able to dance upon demand for the first time in eight years, but that is a small issue. I wondered if the two main charcters had actually talked to each other if it might have saved them a lot of heartache. Lack of communication within a marrriage is a major theme in Barbara Allister's writing. THe story overall was good. The escalation of events and the building of the character's relationships with each other and with the children was well done. The resolution will not be a complete surprise, but it too was well done. There is a fine balance between action and romance in this book.
