Jack Bilello weaves a tale of intrigue that is captivating and entertaining yet causes one to think about the world we live in todayas illustrated by the drug situation. The suspense was gripping. It was difficult to put the book down. I looked forward to reading it and didn't stop until I finished it. I was saddened howver, when it was finished. That is a good sign for me.
Unveiling the tragedy of drug trafficking

Jack Bilello's American Patrol is a thrilling, page-turning story of a Columbian cartel's activities in smuggling cocaine into the U.S. as well as efforts by the U.S. Coast Guard to stop the traffic. The novel traces the experiences of three close friends from their training at the Coast Guard academy to their involvement in drug interdiction. In parallel, the author presents the story of a notorious killer employed by the cartel to set up the delivery and distribution of drugs in New York City. As he did in his first novel, Bonds of War, Bilello does a masterful job of bringing the characters to life. In this book, he manages to meld the two main stories together very neatly at the end through a series of interesting twists and turns. The book has a good mix of suspense, violence, and love. Most importantly, the author provides an excellent description of the many activities of the U.S. Coast Guard, a unit of the military that is rarely treated in the print media. American Patrol is very well written and easy flowing. This book will certainly appeal to general readers of crime novels, but anyone who likes a good, well-written story of the friendship among comrades in arms will also be attracted to it.

MOVE OVER CLANCY - HERE COMES JACK BILELLO

From the moment I started reading "American Patrol", I knew it was one for the ages. As a Coast Guard officer and Coast Guard Academy alum, I was interested in seeing how accurate Bilello would be in his definitions and descriptions of academy life and life as a commissioned officer. I can honestly say he was dead on - extremely accurate. Many of his descriptions and stories brought back instant memories of my cadet days in New London, CT. As far as the book itself and the plot and story line, it is fantastic. I did not want to put it down and I did not want it to end. The writing is excellent and the author has an uncanny way of tying things together. The story is exciting, fast paced, and keeps the reader on edge. The portrayal of the Colombian trafficking organization and it's tie in to various organized crime throughout the world is right on, and the portrayal of the Coast Guard's role in counterdrugs is fantastic. It is incredible how the 2 or 3 subplots are all interrelated, yet on their own, could just about be different books. As far as books go, this is one of the top 2 or 3 I have ever read, and as a big fan of Bilello's first book, "Bonds of War", I have to say "American Patrol" is even better. I give it the highest possible rating and absolutely recommend it to anyone and everyone. It is exciting, entertaining, fast-paced, and overall, unbelieveably great!
