This was my first book by by Micheal Romkey. I loved the idea of the book. This book showed a "human" side of the vampire that I have not read in any books. You saw a full circle of the vampire life. Starting with a man whos life was destroyed and was taked to be a vampire. You see the madness of his revenge and "disease." And you see him return to a state of "human" while still a vampire. I enjoyed this book and think that it has a place in the library of vampire fiction.
Wow! Romkey strikes again.

Michael Romkey's latest vampire novel follows the journey of a new vampire protagonist (this is not a David Parker novel) as he descends into despair during the Civil War, becomes a creature of the night, and seeks some sort of redemption in modern-day America in a three-stage voyage that describes a very long and dark night of the vampire's soul. There are plenty of interesting secondary characters and the writing is some of Mike's best.
