Is it okay to get angry when your toddler doesn't listen? Do other parents get jealous when their child monopolises their spouse's time? Is it normal to wonder if you are being judged by your peers? Who defines normal, anyway? Finally, parents will have the answers to the questions they were afraid to ask. Here, is reassuring advice that shows parents that they are not alone. It candidly discusses the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that many parents hide for fear of being judged as not normal.''
Normalcy is something I am hardly ever accused of, but it was really reassuring to read this book and find out that I am actually a pretty normal parent. This book isn't full of advice and how to fix your children's problems, but it will make you feel that you are not alone in the struggle. I was a little hesitant at first because there is an intro by one of the Nanny 911 nannies, and I really dislike that show. Although they often provide great advice and important structure for the families they help, they usually do so in a judgmental way, and don't seem to get how much harder it is to parent when you do it 24/7, are constantly tired and stressed. However, the book was surprisingly non-judgemental, and even encouraging. I think it is a good read, perhaps for new parents or parents to be to give them some idea of what they are getting into!
Great conversation starter

"While waiting for my daughter at her riding lessons and then waiting for my car to be fixed at the body shop, I read 'Am I a Normal Parent?' I've never seen such a reaction from any other book I have read in public before. At first, strangers found the title of the book amusing and commented on it but then, we got into talking about some really interesting parenting issues. What a great conversation starter!"

As a child and adolescent psychologist AND mother of three, I can genuinely say that this book not only makes you feel you're not alone in the world of parenting, but gives you concrete, constructive and heartfelt advice for how to be the best parent you can be. What's more, it does so without being judgmental or critical. Sara is a Real Mom first and a fabulous clinician next. You'll love this book!
Very helpful.

This book was not what I expected. This book did not explain the best way to handle a screaming 3 year old or an angry teenager. This book is about how the parent feels, and how other parents feel in any given situation with a child. It was VERY refreshing. I am the mother of a 7 year old. While I feel like I am a good mother, I often think about situations that have occurred with my son and thought, "Did I do that wrong?" How would someone else handle this?" It was very nice to read about other parents and how they dealt with the EXACT same situations I was concerned with. This is an excellent book for all parents, or anyone wanting to become parents. It is also an easy read and quickly finished. There is a bountiful amount of information in very few pages.
