An alphabet adventure One day i chanced to stop for t and listen to sweet Mellow D , in her old H beside the sea, sing of her long-lost Mister E . She said he'd hid a treasure chest out on an I -land to the west. Just where it's buried she knew not. But X would surely mark the spot. Come join the letter men of the Alphaboat as they cross the high seas on a treasure-hunting trip! All twenty-six characters are here, from uppercase officers Captain C and Admiral T to lowercase crewmen silent e and sleepy z . Packed with visual and verbal puns, this jaunty picture book salutes nautical yarns of yore as it takes readers where no alphabet book has sailed before. A Junior Library Guild Selection
Alphaboat is a fun read that tests the reader's ability to understand the meaning of what they are reading. The illustrations are wonderful. I find I understand it better every time I read it and find something funny that I missed the first, second, third..time I read it. You will want to read and reread this one. Great for a Lit. Lesson for Intermediate grades too.

A very witty book! As an English major who has worked in writing and editing, I found that this book quickly won me over. I read it to my 4 year old and I know he didn't get everything, but it will grow with him. His favorite part was the silent E (" "). It is so filled with clever word play and illustrations that it takes more than one reading to catch them all.
A great book with a long lifespan!

This is a clever, funny book that will hold a child's interest for many years. Younger children will enjoy the rhyming story about a group of letters that go treasure-hunting. Children learning to read, write, and spell will enjoy the letter puns in the story and illustrations. Older kids and adults will like finding all the little jokes and puns, like the map showing the "ball point" peninsula and other landmarks. We bought this book about a year ago. After countless readings, it is still a fresh, fun read.

What a fun book! Michael Chesworth has filled this high C's adventure with loads of puns and visual jokes that will keep a reader coming back to it again and again. The fact that he was able to do so in smooth, jaunty rhyme makes the book even more impressive. This is one of those great finds, a fresh, intelligent picture book that both kids and adults will enjoy over and over.
