I recently read this delightful book after finding it at my book club. I live in South Africa and have visited many different game parks/reserves both in this country and in other parts of the world. For anybody who has visited South Africa this will be a wonderfully exhilarating read. It's a gentle read too; no extraneous violence and oh so very believable. It's about a family who live in the Kruger National Park. The game warden husband lives there with his wife and three daughters and the story centers around their adopting a lion cub, Leo, and the mischief this lion cub gets up to while living with them. They Park management allow them to keep the cub until he is six months old at which time he has to be given up to a park or reserve where he can be returned to the "wild". Naturally a hand-reared wild animal can never be returned to the actual wild as the animal will never be able to adapt to conditions outside what he has known as 'home'. After quite a struggle, they manage to have him reintegrated into a lion park in Zimbabwe. The remainder of the book is about all the other unusual animals the game warden's wife Kobie adopts. It's an enchanting story and would be enjoyed by all ages.
