In the first story, a young woman returning from the United States must face a maelstrom of imagination, guilt, memory, and desire. Amidst the frenzy of uncertainty that constitutes this brief novel, which is at once cold and hot, ironic and romantic, the heroine relives a nightmare from years ago. The second story is a reimagining of Mozart's opera Così fan tutte , set in present day London. Though they could not be further apart in tone, both tales are in effect meditations on how to live life in the 21st century.
