As in previous volumes, this fourth volume in the series Advances in Drying continues the practice of combining theoretical, design-orientated and practical aspects of drying. Topics covered in this volume include recent thoughts in modeling of drying phenomena, use of computers in rational design of drying particulates, recent advances of drying of wood, and heat/mass transfer phenomena in drying of soils. Special effort is made to ensure the international nature of the contents of this serial publication. As existing knowledge on drying and dryers becomes more widely and readily accessible, it is rather expected that more and more dryers will be rationally designed rather than being built solely for empirical purposes.
