The homeworld Acorna has never known was horribly scarred in the brutal attack by the cold-blooded Khleevi , but the Linyaari -- the unicorn girl's gentle, spiritual race -- live on. Now is the time for healing and rebuilding, for restoring the natural beauty corrupted by the savage insectile oppressors. But Acorna's Linyaari friends and colleagues begin mysteriously disappearing soon after work gets under way, among them her beloved Aari. And her desperate search for answers will lead courageous Acorna to a shocking discovery beneath the surface of her people's world -- and deep into the realms of limitless space, where the truth of the origin of everything awaits.
I recieved the book in record time considering we were so close to the holidays when I ordered it and it arrived in excellent condition. As far as the book itself the story is great. I had purchased most of the series and as I read discovered I had missed that one. I impatiently waited for its arrival and was quite pleased when it arrived sooner than anticipated. For anyone who has read any other of Anne McCaffreys books this is a must read series. If you haven't then this is a great place to start!

McCaffrey never disappoints. This is another winner in a wonderful series. My only disappointment was the "cliff hanger" ending. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.
quite exciting nonetheless...

this series never ceases to amaze me....after the first two novels i couldn't help but continue. although there have been bumps in the road i feel that acorna's search a definite read, especially for those who have read the previous four books. it is a fast read, with alot of twists and turns that keep you wanting to find out what's going on. i thought the ending was alittle cut off, but i guess it just means another acorna book will be gracing the bookshelves in the future. a definitive book concerning the linyaari and their personal history and more informative source to acorna, aari, maati, thaarinye, and company, certainly more detailed and more enlightening. i thoroughly enjoyed reading it. another triumph for anne and elizabeth!!!
Fifth book in Acorna Series

The first book I read in the series was actually the second so I had to go buy the first. After reading the third and fourth it is starting to get slow. I was excited at seeing this book was out but disappointed that everything isn't finished up yet. I did read it in a day so its a good read. Now I can't wait for the next installment.
Acorna, still searching...

Like the earlier Acorna novels, nothing goes as planned for Acorna. The development of the characters wasn't as in depth as the earlier novels. But with very few new characters added this is not a hinderance. Acorna's uncle seemed a lot more miserly than I remembered. He was always profit motivated, but, was still generous. The descriptions of the planet made the story come alive. You could feel the how they felt. The description of the desolate surface play well into the feeling of desparation and despair. It was very enjoyable and a fast read. I found myself disappointed when I reached the end... I can hardly wait for the next installment.
