Sasshi's world is crumbling away. His best gal pal, Arumi, is about to move away, and, adding insult to injury, his neighbourhood is being demolished in the name of urban renewal. However, when the Abenobashi section of the city is levelled, a portal to parallel universes is cracked wide open.
When I first saw this series on Tech Tv, I enjoyed it. Then I found out it was also a manga. This was early early mid 2000s. Years have passed and I bought both books. The series is really wacky, even by comedy anime standards. If you like comedy and ecchi you will like it. If not can't really be took quick to recommend. The anime is still ecchi, but the manga goes well beyond the shows limits of ecchi. They are similar, but the manga has a lot more of the unpredictability the anime is lacking. Over funny and filled with references from other animes, like Evangelion and Gundam, slice of life and ninja animes. Good series still holds up pretty well with its humor.

Abenobashi: Magical Shopping Arcade is one of the strangest manga books I have ever read since FLCL. But unlike FLCL, I understood this book! The story jumps around alot and you need to read it a couple times in order to understand what's going on. Sasshi is a young boy who is into books, videogames and trading cards. But when his friend, Arumi's, grandfather breaks the family gardian statue, everything goes nuts! Transporting them into different versions of their shopping mall. Along the way they meet different versions of their family members and friends in these worlds and also must complete strange, meaningless and even bizzare tasks! Full of comedy, love and a little of drama and sci-fi this book covers all forms of genres! And, much like FLCL, it makes fun of alot of other anime and manga series and also has alot of...mature comments and pictures *wink*! My friend gave me this book and I liked it very much, but not being able to understand it was a little troublesome, but overall this series gets 5 stars out of 5 and is a buy for all manga readers! My name is Amone! Adios!
