Meet skeleton spirits in Alaska -- the Dancing Ahkiyyini -- and gliding ghosts overseas, like Japan's Legless Yurei. Witness groups of ghosts at Mexico's Day of the Dead and the solitary Ibambo on... This description may be from another edition of this product.
A World Full of Ghosts by Charis Cotter is a picture book that covers various types of ghosts from around the world. La Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Mexico and Halloween are also covered. There are also thirteen ghost stories claimed to be true. A map of the word gives the page number for the ghosts of a region mentioned in the book. The scariness of the ghosts is rated by skulls at the top of the page, from one skull to three.
These are the ghosts covered: Afrit, Ahkiyyini, Aumakua, Awiri, Banshee, Brahmadaitya, Chindi, Duppy, Egui (Chinese hungry ghosts), Ibambo, Lapu, Liekkio, Nuggle, Rhea, Sea Ghost, Shojo, Silky, Spunkie, Stone Ghosts, the Wandering Gaucho, and Yurei.
I'd never heard of most of these. It was quite interesting. Yes, it appears to be aimed at older elementary school children, but I think it would make a good stepping stone for older readers to choose types of ghosts to look up in other books.
