but I'd give Mary Balogh's and Carla Kelley's stories five stars each. If for no other reason, buy the book for those two stories alone. Unfortunately the Carol Proctor and Sandra Heath stories are average to mediocre, and the Edith Layton story was so bad I couldn't even finish it. I have seen this "grouping" of regency authors in several different books-and I personally feel publishers would do better with a book with two longer stories just with Balogh and Kelley. Any time these two authors exceptional writing stands aside others, the other authors stories just pale in comparison. I think the biggest problem with the other stories is that the characters just seem like one dimensional, atypical regency cardboard cutouts of characters-while Balogh/Kelley's characters shine with heartfelt emotions, realistic feelings and problems. So, I'd give the book 3.5 stars overall-but I do heartily recommend it for die hard Balogh/Kelley fans-although it's not worth the current ($25) price listed here. 3.5 stars.
