An author to watch-each book is better than the one before

Wanda Brighton leaves her five month old baby Lucy with her old friend Meryl Masters while she visits her religiously fanatical parents. Wanda has never told them that they are grandparents. When Wanda returns to pick up her infant, neither Meryl or the child is there. Panicking, Wanda races to the San Maderia Police Department where she meets the Chief of Homicide, Detective Kate Harrod. The law enforcement official has the distasteful job of informing Wanda that her daughter was found dead. Her body was battered. the mouth taped up to prevent any screaming, and the corpse dropped inside a dumpster. At the same time that Wanda learns about her daughter's death, a naked body of a female is found in an abandoned woods near the town of Stoddard. The corpse turns out to be Meryl. Two police departments refocus their investigations on Meryl based on the fact that no one should have any reasons to kill the baby, making it obvious that the perpetrator was after the baby-sitter. As the police dig into Meryl's life, they find a person who enjoyed living on the edge with many secrets, including one that must have led to two murders. A LYING SILENCE centers around the violence that erupts when two people living on the edge cross over the line that separates right from wrong. Laura Coburn delivers an exciting police procedural, starring a villain that is near impossible to suspect even though hindsight will show that the clues were all placed in plain sight. The heroine is much more than a two-dimensional law enforcement officer. She is a real woman, with vulnerabilities and concerns that turn her into a sympathetic character.
