Betty Neels + Manga = Good Combination

If you're an avid romance reader like I am, then you should be familiar with the late author, Betty Neels. Betty Neels was most famous for her medical romances. Her heroes were almost exclusively Dutch doctors and her heroines as plain English nurses. Caroline, while visiting in Amsterdam, promised to give a book to her friend's cousin. There she meets Marius van Houben. Even though their meeting was brief, Caroline felt something for the doctor but knew nothing would come of it and in all probability, would never meet him again. Back in London, she works as a pediatric nurse and with an admittance of a special patient, Marius returned into her life. But there was Emily. How could Caroline compete with someone so sophisticated, beautiful and have a history with the doctor? I've read most of Betty Neels' books and in all honesty, you read one and kind of read them all. The books can be a bit tedious with the slow plotline and lot of inner thoughts. However, her stories are classics and makes you go back for more. And this manga only highlights why. The manga took all the best parts from the book, took out the unnecessary details and breathed new life into an outdated romance. I found the manga more enjoyable than the book. (The manga doesn't follow faithfully to the original story. But what the manga did was give a great deal more drama.) Is it the best in the harlequin manga series? Not really. But the characters were lovable and you couldn't help but feel empathy for the heroine. The dialogue were perfectly written. Overall, it's sweet with no humor. The drama was perfectly balanced. So when a scene started to lag, the next page will assuredly draw you in again. As an artist, the artwork is a little awkward for me to like, but after awhile, you don't really notice it except in a few panels. I found the style of drawing complements the heroine's young nature about love and hero's lack of understanding of love despite being in 30-40s. I think if you are a Betty Neels' fan or into a sweet romance, then I suggest the manga to you. If not, this manga might not be your cup of tea.

A Chance in a Million

Book Description: A Dynamic Consultant . . . And A Student Nurse? "I'm not aware that I am restricted in my actions by anyone or anything." Arrogant, rich and devastatingly attractive, Marius van Houben was the sort of man who was used to getting his own way. He certainly wasn't prepared for Caroline's plainspoken, commonsense approach. After all, as a student nurse, both qualities were an asset . . . If only Marius thought the same! Marius van Houben, rich, good-looking Dutch Doctor, knew Caroline Frisby, plain, sensible, British Nurse, was right for the job of nursing and supervising Marc's recovery back home in Holland. She had established and excellent rapport with the little boy while he was in the hospital in England. Marius van Houben, the boy's uncle, was rich, attractive and successful-and very single. He wanted her to nurse his nephew; what were the chances that he would want more? ...Especially when he already has a beautiful, but evil, girlfriend. Caroline knew that there was one chance in a million that she would be "the" girl in a million.

Nurses rule!

Back Cover description: "You want me?" Caroline Frisby was right for the job--after all, she'd established an excellent rapport with the little boy while he was in the hospital in England. It only made sense that she be the one to supervise Marc's recovery back home in Holland. But was she the right girl for the man? Marius van Houben, the boy's uncle, was rich, attractive and successful--and very single. He could have any girl he wanted. What were the chances that he would want her? Caroline knew that they were one in a million.Heart-warming story as usual. Great lead characters, the plot moves and a happy ending, what more could you want.

Very endearing book!

A Girl In A Million is a very good book written by Betty Neels who is my favorite author of Romance books, the story is about an English lady named Caroline Frisby who meets a Dutch guy named Marius Van Hauben and goes with him from England to Holland. I really recommend this endearing book!
