Average field guide.

This is a nice field guide but it only has 4 color plates of 12 supplemented with some line drawings making it a little less visual than I would like. The contents of the introduction are as follows: How to use the species accounts; checklist of the birds of Galapagos; history of ornithology in Galapagos; climate; zonation of plants and birds; numbers of land birds, plants & altitude; the land birds of arid islands; breeding seasons; ecology; changes in the avifauna & its conservation; migrants; the birds likely to beseen. This is followed by "The Birds" section containing each species account; which are arranged by their family name (common names included too). The species accounts contain a brief indentification, flight, voice, food, breeding and distribution section; which sometimes has a map. Overall, it is a professional book considering the version I write about is from 1982 but I'm sure there are nicer guides today.
