The twenty-seven poems in this little book represent the majority of the poetic works written by the author between 2005 and 2008. All were composed in Kenya: some in the City of Nairobi; some in rural Meru, where the magnificent Mt. Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa, appears shrouded in mist on the Western horizon; one by beautiful Lake Naivasha, perched high up in the stunning Rift Valley; most in the tranquil atmosphere of Lamu, on the North coast of Kenya, where a generous helping of creative inspiration is bestowed upon anyone who dares to stay there for more than a few days Two were written on scraps of paper with a jittery pen, in a dreamy state, while the bus rattles and jolts along the rough highway from Mombasa, bound for distant Lamu. The majority of the poems in this volume have a message, some subtle but in most of them the message is clear. Chris has chosen to spend the last years of his life in idyllic Shela Village on Lamu Island, blessed with peace and pure sea air. He is currently immersed in watercolour painting, having phased out poetry and novel writing for the time being. What next?
