I've had "10,000 Garden questions answered by 20 experts" for over 15 years. It is a great all round reference for almost any type of plant in your garden - shrubs, perennials, annuals, groundcovers, etc. The question and answer format is useful, since the questions cover most of the important facts about each type of plant - how much sun, what kind of soil, how much water, when and how to prune. There are chapters on home vegetable gardens, home ground fruits, house plants, plant troubles and their control, weeds, and regional garden problems. The index is excellent, so the reader can find information about plants in different chapters - soils and fertilizers, landscaping, I've rarely failed to find useful information in this book about any kind of annual, biennial, perennial, tree, shrub, or vine. Most of the culitivars discussed in the book are no longer available, as the book was originally published in 1946. Aside from that, plants don't change, so this is still a very valuable reference.
